Role Description
Position: Principal
Purpose Academy seeks a Christ-centered servant-leader to serve as Principal. The ideal candidate will be humble, hungry, and teachable, with a sincere desire to serve the Lord by serving Purpose Academy students, families, and the broader school community with excellence, wisdom, grace, and care. The Principal will be supported by the Assistant Principal and should be thoroughly familiar with state and scholarship compliance and reporting requirements, principles of child and educational psychology, and the content, scope, and sequence of the curriculum taught in the school.
Responsibility and Authority
The Principal reports directly to the Superintendent for the administration and management of the school. In collaboration with the Superintendent and Assistant Principal, the Principal provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, and discipline and is responsible for the effective daily operation of the school. The Principal is also accountable to the Advisory Board for faithfully carrying out the mission, policies, and overall direction of the school. The Principal is responsible for fulfilling the duties set forth below with integrity, diligence, and a heart to glorify God through service to the school community.
Duties
1. Implements the policies of the school committee and the directives of the Superintendent and Advisory Board.
2. Collaborates with the Superintendent, Education Initiatives team, and the Assistant Principal in the selection, implementation, and assessment of curriculum to meet the needs of the student community.
3. Oversees, supervises, and certifies the preparation, accuracy, and maintenance of a wide variety of records and reports.
4. Plans and administers the budget appropriation allocated to the school.
5. Is responsible for all funds collected for the operation of the school and the keeping of accurate records of these funds.
6. Participates in the yearly determination of textbooks, including reviewing and evaluating resources.
7. Reports to the Superintendent and Advisory Board regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, and supplies.
8. Furnishes the necessary supplies and instructional aids to staff for the improvement of instruction.
9. Supervises the maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the building and its contents.
10. Promotes safety in the school by maintaining a systematic program of fire drills, pedestrian traffic control, and periodic inspection of buildings and grounds.
11. Provides leadership in the improvement of the total educational program by visiting classrooms, conferring with teachers, giving leadership in curriculum improvement, and assisting in the selection and use of instructional materials.
12. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, supervises the instructional staff so that the purposes of the educational program may be attained.
13. Directs the activities of all members of the staff assigned to the school in the performance of their duties.
14. Oversees the orientation of all new non-instructional staff, ensuring that new members are familiar with the school philosophy, mission, vision, core principles, texts, guides, personnel policies, and school financing.
15. Aids teachers in the interpretation of the courses of study and other instructional supplies and materials.
16. Participates with the Assistant Principal in devising a well-planned in-service training program in best instructional practices for faculty.
17. Aids teachers with daily programs and lesson plans when needed and/or refers matters to a designated team member.
18. Shares in the development of curricular programs and supports the Assistant Principal in the implementation of such programs when approved.
19. Consults regularly with and coordinates the services of the Assistant Principal and subject specialists so that all classroom teachers may receive effective assistance.
20. Manages the planning, organizing, and implementation of all administrative and operational school activities, and collaborates with the Assistant Principal in all academic school activities.
21. Provides and supports appropriate developmental opportunities to school personnel to maintain an updated and competent faculty and staff.
22. Sets clear expectations and provides ongoing feedback, advice, counsel, and support to all staff members regarding individual and group performance.
23. Participates with the Assistant Principal in motivating the teaching faculty; encouraging professional development; recognizing efficiency and accomplishments; and encouraging student body spirit through rewards, privileges, recognition, and disciplinary measures.
24. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, utilizes to the fullest all resources of the school system and the community in developing the most effective educational program.
25. Manages activities involving pupil and parent contacts such as suspensions, expulsions, student progress and adjustment, placement of students, guidance and counseling matters, and other delicate pupil/parent relationships.
26. Provides each student with an atmosphere that will stimulate learning, growth, and progress in a Christ-centered environment.
27. Evaluates the performance of teachers and advises the Superintendent and Advisory Board with reference to recommendations for employment and reappointment.
28. Consults with parents and teachers concerning the welfare of any student.
29. Promotes good public relations in the school and community by properly interpreting the educational program and representing the school with grace and integrity.
30. Pursues professional growth through reading, attending conferences, and workshops in order to provide professional leadership of the highest type.
31. Submits written reports upon request to the Superintendent and Advisory Board.
32. Ministers to stakeholders (i.e., staff, students, parents, etc.) at their point of need as a primary and ongoing priority.
33. Fulfills any and all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Advisory Board.

Reporting To
The Principal reports directly to the Superintendent and is accountable to the Advisory Board.
Qualifications and Expertise
The candidate should possess relevant qualifications in education, with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The candidate should have implemented and managed curriculum in a school environment in the capacity of an educational leader and should have a minimum of 10 to 15 years of work experience. The candidate should have strong knowledge of learning theories and the ability to apply them, and must possess a strong commitment to organizing the school’s instructional programs and vision in accordance with the school curriculum and mission, with successful teaching experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate humility, teachability, initiative, and a sincere commitment to serving Purpose Academy students, families, and the school community.
Salary
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
